I've decided to add a tip jar to my art website and blog. There are many buttons out there you can copy and paste into your site and be ready to go. It's never that easy, because we like to show off! Instead of using a third party button, opening a pop up window, or loading a new page, we really wanted to explore the new animation capabilities of HTML5.
The tip jar has buttons that open up a new space where visitors can tip using credit cards, Bitcoin, or Dogecoin.
Credit card users get a straightforward form that provides instant feedback. If something is incorrect it shakes, and once everything is correct, the window flips over and shows the transaction status. This gives users confidence and instills trust.
Bitcoin transactions require minimal information, so a QR code and a plain text Bitcoin payment address is displayed.
Dogecoin transactions work the exact same way, but with shibe - wow!
The tip jar area can be closed by pressing Esc, clicking the "Done" button, or clicking the gray background. We really wanted to make sure clicking anywhere will swing the site back into place.
With this upgrade, we enabled HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) so shoppers and tippers can be confident that their payment information is secure. Head on over to LauraChenault.com and check it out!
