OneBit anounces a new Android bitcoin wallet that will allow users to utilize the MasterCard payment network at any NFC (Near-Field Communication) terminal. These terminals are common in Europe and Sinapore and hopefully the conversion to EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) chip cards here in the US will bring this technology closer to home. Toby Hoenisch, OneBit's Founder is quoted in the Brave New Coin article as saying:
The magic that happens underneath is done by BitPay who converts your bitcoin and MasterCard, who sends the money to the restaurant.
Looks like an exciting combination of new and old technology. I can't wait to see how the roll out is implemented.
