Picasso has been one of my favorite artists since high school. I remember losing myself in his paintings at the amazing Art Institute. His quote "Art washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life" is a beautifully lettered by Peter Bielous.
I am always attracted to type that is vintage or is hand lettered. Long Live the Reckless and the Brave by Mark van Leeuwen looks hand done and has a retro vibe.

I love this beer themed poster, Can't Stop Won't Stop, by Nathan Walker. I love the way the bottle caps, ingredients, and serving vehicles create the decorative background, It's a nice balance to the type without detracting from the words. As my letterpress instructor was fond of saying, "type is meant to be readable".
Horror by Jawwwwn is a beautifully rendered tribute to the season. I love the graveyard on the horizon that is repeated across the letters. Gruesome details of a hanging man, raven, and the tiny spider all are enhanced by the intricate stippling.
I can relate to the idea of walking through fire. And here it is so well illustrated by CaliDoso. Not only is the lettering perfect, the swaggering dude in the center is hilariously nonplussed.
Desktop Mag has an interview with the studio of Dalton Maag to offer insight into their new font licensing model. Fully functional fonts are now available for students and for sample work. I'm jumping up and down at the thought of being able to use their beautiful, professional fonts without limitations. We don't budget for fonts unless a specific project requires them. Often this is hard to determine
